Day 9 – Saturday July 11th, 2015
Miles Hiked: 9.0 Total Miles: 117.2
CT Sections: 7-3.8 > 8-0.0
Today was only 9 miles and made for our shortest day, but the toughest thus far. We started the day at 08:50 and after hiking for nearly two hours, crossed over what we thought was the highpoint. We soon found out that we had only gone about half way up. After another long climb, we finally arrived at the top between peak 5 and 6.
I took off my pack and climbed to the top of peak 5 while Emmy went on and took a break a little ways down the trail. After a steep 4 mile descent into Copper, we saw a Colorado Trail Foundation trail crew setting-up and went over to say hi and thank them. Cindy, the group leader, said we could camp and eat with their group. We decided to stay and we pitched our tent near theirs just past the East Copper Mountain parking lot.
We socialized for a little while then walked into Copper Village and found a restaurant where Emmy had a burger and I ate a chicken sandwich…yum. We listened to artists playing live music at the bluegrass festival while eating dinner, then got a bus ride back to the East lot. We talked with some of the trail workers, watched the weekly firework show, then headed to bed.
